CHRISTMAS will be coming early for runners wanting to give back and get active, as Primrose Hospice launches its first ever Santa Fun Run.

The charity fundraiser will kick off the Christmas season on Sunday, December 16 as hundreds of Santa lookalikes descend on Arrow Valley Lake in Redditch for one 5k or 1k runs.

Emma Williams, fundraising manager at the hospice, which supports cancer patients in Bromsgrove and Redditch, said: "Whether you want to go for personal best or a festive walk with the family, the Santa Fun Run is set to be a wonderful day out for all involved.

"We’re excited to be bringing this brilliant event to Redditch for the first time, so come along and support your local hospice while getting into the Christmas spirit.”

Registration for the 5k Santa Fun Run and 1k children's Santa Dash will start at 10am with a warm up following at 10.15am.

Entry costs £12 for adults, £4 for children or free for under-twos.

All adults will receive their own Santa suit to wear during the run, and children and dogs are encouraged to don their favourite Christmas fancy dress.

Everyone who completes the fun runs will receive a medal at the finish line.

There will be a mini Christmas market on the day with festive stalls to browse and hot food and drinks on sale.

Mark Churchill, chairman of running club Redditch Stars, which will be supporting the event, said: "As a club we decided that we wanted to give back something to the community and those less fortunate than ourselves so we have a yearly charity that we support voted for by the members.

"We’re hopeful that the day will be enjoyed by all the family and maybe give people a chance to see that running clubs aren’t just for Mo Farah wannabes but for everyone.”
