A PARK which was closed down in 2015 over safety fears has regained a new lease of life thanks to the installation of new skate park equipment.

New equipment has been installed on the Kempson Players in Bromyard and has been welcomed by young people who helped with its installation.

John Grafham, chairman of the committee who helps maintain the park, said: "We have been trying to move forward and both maintain and improve the park in a number of areas.

"We found that Nick Ferguson had been storing a number of ramps and other skate equipment on behalf of the charity for a number of years. So we were all very keen to put these back into service."

The project was taken on by local young people who gave up their time to install the new equipment. James Phillips, Brandon Bateman and Ethan and Joe Potter helped the committee to dig out the bank, design the layout and arrange the equipment.

Keen skateboarders, they were determined to ensure the park had a good 'flow'.

The park hit a crisis in 2015, when it was closed due to safety concerns, leading to an impasse between the town council and the Bromyard Recreation Ground charity over who was responsible for its maintenance.

The zip-wire was removed and the council later re-opened the park, but it received no further investment until the new committee was formed.

Thanks to the committee's fundraising coupled with lottery grant funding, a double zip-wire was installed this summer and the group has more plans for the future, including better disabled access and a games area.
