A NUISANCE pensioner with anti-Semitic views who harassed the BBC and MP Robin Walker promised a judge he would not breach his restraining order again.

James Evans referred to all Beeb staff and the Worcester MP as “idiots” when appearing in court on Friday, having sent numerous offensive letters.

The 71-year-old breached a three-year restraining order against BBC Hereford & Worcester by hand delivering 53 letters to the radio station.

Although the contents of the letters were not disclosed, previous comments by Evans read out in court described Judaism as “a death cult” which will get “everyone killed”.

He told the court on Friday he has “nothing but contempt” for the MP and the BBC.

“I view them as idiots, it’s like talking to a brick wall,” he said, adding that the Worcester News is “stupid”.

Judge Daniel Pearce-Higgins QC said he has also received letters from Evans about Freedom of Information and said: “The seriousness of the situation is strictly the breach – there was no harm done.”

The case had been adjourned from last month while investigations were carried out into whether any more letters had been sent while Evans was on bail.

A retired mental health social worker, of Bath Road, Worcester, Evans has been told by the Hylton Road radio station’s managing editor Jeremy Pollock to “desist” in the past, the court heard last month.

Evans has previously harassed Mr Walker, sending him around 100 letters between August 1 and November 25, 2016, prompting Judge Pearce-Higgins to describe him at an earlier hearing as “delusional”.

On Friday, Evans’ restraining order against BBC Hereford & Worcester was extended to five years and he was given a 12-month community order, including 100 hours of unpaid work.

The unpaid work will start after January due to Evans caring for his wife after undergoing two hip-replacement surgeries.

He told the judge: “I have no further intention of breaching court orders.”

He added: “I want a restraining order from the MP and the stupid article in the newspaper.”

The court heard he is currently visiting a psychiatrist on a weekly basis, who has confirmed he is making progress.

It was felt the unpaid work would help Evans get out of the house and not spend his days on online forums.
