A HOST of creative sessions, workshops and coffee mornings are being held across libraries in Oldbury and Rowley Regis to mark Remembrance and commemorate 100 years since the end of the First World War.

In Oldbury, five libraries are holding Remembrance coffee mornings at the end of this week.

Those libraries are Bleakhouse (Thursday, November 8, 10.30-11.30am), Oldbury (Friday, November 9, 10.30-11.30am), Langley (Friday, November 9, 10.30am-12noon), Rounds Green (Friday, November 9, 11am-12noon) and Brandhall (Saturday, November 10, 10.30-11.30am).

In Rowley Regis, meanwhile, Blackheath Library is hosting a Remembrance coffee morning on Friday, November 9 from 11am-1pm and a children's crafts session on Saturday, November 10 from 12-1pm.

At Cradley Heath Library, a Remembrance coffee morning will be held on Saturday, November 10 from 10.30am-12.30pm plus a children's crafts session on the same day from 10.30am-1.30pm.

Finally, at Oakham Library, there will be a Remembrance coffee morning on Friday, November 9 from 11am-12.45pm and a children's crafts session on Saturday, November 10 from 11am-12noon.

The children's crafts sessions include memory poppies, replica ID cards and ration books.

The longer, three-hour session at Cradley Heath Library on Saturday will also feature 'show and tell' reminiscence with pictures, artefacts and more from the two world wars.

There will also be a poppy wall in each library for people to place the names of loved ones to remember, as well as war-themed books on display.

Councillor Syeda Khatun, Sandwell Council’s deputy leader, said: “These events give an opportunity to people of all ages to remember the fallen in several ways.

“Sandwell is marking the centenary of the Armistice that ended the war with a wide range of activities, and this shows how important Remembrance is to our communities.”
