PLANS are in place to stage the first ever remembrance service at the shell in Shell Corner.

The service will take place on Sunday November 9 starting at 7pm when people will have the change to mark 100 years since the end of World War One.

Former local councillor Stuart Henley has played a key role in arranging the service, he said: "The service is designed to bring local people and business together to remember the fallen servicemen and women that have served to protect us, our country and support others.

"The shell has come back to us after many years and will be used as a memorial for our service personnel.

"I'm now calling on residents and business people alike to come and spend a short time together so they can reflect."

The service is being backed by RAF cadets and the British Legion who will be assisting and supplying wooden crosses which visitors can purchase and place at the shell.

Already the forthcoming service has attracted considerable interest with local business people purchasing wreaths to lay at the shell.

Students from Halesowen College have provided artwork for the shell since it was brought back from Essex Bomb Squad while bugler Julia Holley will be playing the last post.

Visitors will also be able to sample a commemorative beer created especially for the occasion by the Blind Money Brewery which will be available from The Shelter micro pub on Shell Corner.
