THE schedule for Bromsgrove's Remembrance Parade, which this year marks 100 years since the end of the First World War, has been confirmed.

All organisations that wish to take part in the parade on November 11 are asked to gather opposite Argos on the high street at 10.20am.

Standards will lead the parade behind police and church representatives as the procession starts at 10.40am.

The parade will proceed along the high street, giving an eye's left at the Odd Fellows Memorial, before a salute is taken by the deputy lord lieutenant of Worcestershire.

It will then turn into Church Street, crossing Market Street to Church Close, and then on to the New Monument on Crown Close.

Amphlett Hall will be open for visitors to watch the parade from inside.

The remembrance service will be conducted outside at 10.55am, with the Act of Remembrance taking place at 11am.

Organisations will be asked to place their wreaths on the monument, before the service comes to a close at 11.45am.

There will then be a short service at St John's Church at 12pm, which will involve a prayer and laying of two blank wreaths on the war memorial, followed by a poem read by town crier Kevin Ward.

Anyone wishing to take part in the Remembrance Parade is urged to contact Patrick Smith on 07949789841 or patrick.smith@uwclub.net. Organisations wishing to lay a wreath are to contact Jeff Evans on 07973295972 or poppyorganiser@gmail.com.

Local branches of the Royal British Legion will also be starting their Poppy Appeals, including Lickey End and Catshill, which will launch theirs at Willowbrook Garden Centre on October 27.

Bromsgrove District Council chairman Caroline Spencer said: "The Poppy Appeal currently stands at just over £46m which is another record achievement, surpassing both last and the previous year’s final totals. "This is an incredible testament to the public’s generosity.

"Over £1.7m a week is spent on beneficiaries and the public’s assistance is of huge benefit to the appeal.

"The help that people in Bromsgrove are able to provide will be a major contribution to the success of this year’s Poppy Appeal.

"I would like to take this opportunity to thank them in advance for their continued support, which will be greatly appreciated."

A memorial 'poppy wall', made from more than 10,000 knitted flowers, will be unveiled at Bromsgrove Methodist Church Centre in Stratford Road at 11am on Saturday (October 27).
