BOOKWORMS in Worcestershire have borrowed a total of 1,560,587 books so far this year.

Data from the county's 23 libraries has revealed the most borrowed books of 2018, with author Lee Child claiming the top three spots in the adult fiction list.

Night School, No Middle Name, The Complete Collected Short Stories and The Midnight Line were all among the most read, followed by Peter James' Need You Dead and John Grisham's Camino Island.

David Walliams' The World's Worst Children is top of the most borrowed junior titles for August, with Jeff Kinney coming in second with Double Down, followed by Roald Dahl's George's Marvellous Medicine.

Cllr Lucy Hodgson, county cabinet member with responsibility for communities, said: "With 23 libraries dotted across the county as well as a mobile library getting to those more remote areas, there is a wealth of options for those seeking to borrow a book, get involved in an event or activity, use a free to access computer or just find a quiet place to read or work."

She added: "It is wonderful to see so many people using our libraries."
