LUDLOW School staff and students had a surprise when former student Lt Cdr Jez Morse landed his Sea King Helicopter on the school field.

Having returned from a tour of duty in Afghanistan Jez contacted Life Skills Manager Malcolm Weaver and reminded him of his happy days at Ludlow School from 1984 to 1989.

The conversation developed into a discussion about career management and how Jez became a helicopter pilot.

"One thing led to another and the next thing I knew, Jez had agreed to seek permission for him to fly the helicopter to Ludlow School and provide a Navy Careers information session for Ludlow School students,” said Malcolm.

β€œIn fact, he arranged for two Sea Kings to arrive and for the Careers Ser vice from Birmingham to offer advice."

Since qualifying Jez has notched up 1800 hours flying time and after the next period of training he will be back in Afghanistan later in the year."

After completing his studies at Ludlow College Jez applied for a commission but was refused. He then went back to college gaining additional A-levels and studied environmental engineering at university.

He was then able to join the Royal Navy and qualified to fly Sea King helicopters four years later.
