Ludlow 10 points Worcester Wanderers 34

IT was a case of after the Lord Mayor’s Show for Ludlow who were brought down to earth by Worcester Wanderers.

The home side went into the game full of confidence having notched an impressive derby win over Whitchurch the previous week which was their third win in four games.

But they came unstuck against a slick Wanderers outfit who more than deserved their success in this Midlands 1 West clash.

“We were outplayed in every department,” said club spokesman Phil Norton.

“It will be a wake-up call for us. They broke our defensive line reasonably easily and that gave them confidence.

We know we can play better.”

The Linney outfit took the lead through a Will Sparrow try which was converted by Will Norton.

But Ludlow were soon pe gged back with Gre g Fincher securing two penalties to reduce the deficit but Ludlow held on for an interval advantage.

The lead didn’t last long, however, with Fincher going under the posts to give Worcester the advantage before a Norton penalty reduced the deficit to 13-10.

Converted tries by Rob Southwood and Paul Burton then gave Worcester some breathing space before Will Jackson burst through the home side’s defence for a late try converted by Fincher.

The result keeps Ludlow firmly in mid-table with three wins from their opening five matches since being promoted from Midlands 2 West North.

“It’s the start of a tough month for us,” said Norton. “But if you would have said we would have three wins from five games we would have taken it.”

This weekend Ludlow will be looking to get back on the winning trail when they make the trip to Stratford.
