Morda United 1 Ludlow Town 4.

AFTER the previous weekend’s battle with Haughmond, last Saturday’s trip to Morda proved to be a much easier challenge.

Town cruised into a 2-0 lead, and then picked up the pace again after Morda had pulled a goal back. They put their foot on the pedal in the second half and went on to secure their second Premier Division win in the Sportsjamkits.com Shropshire County League.

Nathan Hodge used his speed to run through the Morda defence and score the two first-half goals.

Ludlow went off the boil in the latter stages of the first half, and at the start of the second.

Luke Hicks fouled a player in the area and Jamie Evans converted the spot kick to offer the home side a lifeline.

Ludlow stormed back to control the rest of the game and created several openings. Gareth Hamer scrambled the ball home when Morda failed to clear a corner, and then Aaron Hodge demonstrated his strength and pace when he took the ball in a deep position and brushed aside the home defenders before beating the keeper.

l Church Stretton recorded their second win in Division 1 when they ran out 4-0 winners at Bishop’s Castle.

They had already created, but missed, a couple of chances before Max Jerrard opened the scoring midway through the first half.

Two second-half goals from Chris Hook and one from Dean Richards sealed the win.

l After looking good in pre-season matches Ludlow Colts have struggled in their two Shropshire Alliance fixtures. After losing their first match at Rock Sports 4-0 they were looking for a big improvement at Bayston Hill on Saturday.

Their prospects looked promising at the start, but then they conceded a penalty and their performance dipped. They leaked two more goals and lost 3-0.
