HUGE interest in designer Laura Ashley’s belongings led to fierce bidding at the McCartneys’ antique and furniture sale in Ludlow.

Bidders in the packed saleroom saw more than 200 lots from the Ashley family home in Powys come under the hammer, after the recent sale of the property.

Interest was widespread, leading to a number of commission and telephone bids.

“It was a very successful sale and there was a real buzz in the saleroom,” said auctioneer Daniel Fielder. “There were some lovely pieces from the Ashley family home, with many lots exceeding expectations.”

Notable items included a 19th centur y Burr walnut desk stand, which reached £1,100, a set of three sepia engravings by Boydell, which sold for £700, and an oak model of a ship’s canon, which made £420. The items came from Rhydoldog House near Rhayder.
