THE General Election in Ludlow now has a Monster Raving Loony Party candidate.
Electors will have a choice of seven candidates when they put their cross on the ballot box and the new name is Alan Powell, landlord of the Nelson Inn.
Alan, aged 51, has been at the pub in Rock Green for 22 years and is hoping to pick up protest votes.
“I decided to stand because I quite fancy a well-paid part-time job in London,” said Alan, who will be touring the area on his ‘battle trike’ He added: “People are ver y disillusioned with politicians and this shows that there is freedom in a democracy.”
He decided to stand after attending a party convention in Wales where the idea was put to him.
