LOVERS of good food in Ludlow have found a way of celebrating the arrival of spring with perry and pork.

After one of the harshest winters in 30 years, the Ludlow Marches Slow Food Group will celebrate the vivid colour and aroma of fresh blossom down at Butford Organics, a local perry producer just outside Ludlow.

The smallholding, which also keeps pigs, will be opening its doors for a barbecue with its own sausages, accompanied by dancers from Leominster Morris and a farm trail to keep children happy.

Ludlow ’s Slow Food Group has teamed up with Martin and Janet Harris, regulars at the Ludlow local produce market, to make the event a success.

“We’re very grateful and excited about the opportunity to spend what will be a memorable Sunday lunchtime and afternoon taking in the beautiful sight of the spring blossom on perry trees at Butford Organics,”

said Sue Chantler of the Slow Food Group.

“The drink perry is very special to us as it’s been accepted by Slow Food as a product that needs support and promotion due to its rarity, so this is a great way of celebrating the coming of spring and a wonderful locally-produced drink, by blessing the blossom.

“By doing so, we hope Martin and Janet have a bumper year of perry production.”

Tickets for the event on Sunday, April 25, are available direct from the farm.
