ACTION from the Powergen Midlands Four West (North) local derby clash between Ludlow and Bishop's Castle at the Linney on Saturday. This was the first time that the two sides had ever met in the league, with Castle achieving parity with their neighbours following promotion last season.
Ludlow were supporting their new shirts, generously donated by local agricultural implement manufacturers, McConnell for the occasion. The sponsors and supporters were in for a battle royal between two sides who went into the game boasting 100 percent records.
What the game lacked in free-flowing three-quarter play, was more than made up for by the commitment and aggression of both sides. Ludlow matched their renowned forward inspired opponents and won the kicking game by three penalties to two to take the points and honours by 9-6.
Ludlow representative Chris Williams was naturally pleased with the result and commented that Castle were a good scalp as they had already accounted for the two relegated clubs in their opening three fixtures. The return at Bishop's Castle in February is eagerly awaited.
