New jobs as plans lodged for new Tenbury car workshop

A planning application wants the council to rubber-stamp the change the use of the building at Greenhill Springs, on Kyrewood Road, from light industrial to a vehicle workshop and garage.

Minor changes to the building are also proposed, including a larger roller shutter door and installing a second to improve access and security.

The application, from Simon Ham and Tom Rawlings of Marson Ham Ltd, said the building was originally developed as a workshop and required only limited changes to accommodate the new business.

Documents sent to planners by the Tenbury-based surveyors, planning consultants and building contractors showed the site includes workshop space, offices, storage areas, parking and a secure yard, with all repair work proposed to take place inside the building.

The business would operate between 8am and 6pm Monday to Friday and 8am to 1pm on Saturdays.

The garage would carry out servicing, tyre fitting, mechanical repairs and welding work, the application said, with around 20 to 30 vehicle movements a day expected.

Existing access and parking arrangements would remain unchanged.

Planning consultants argued the proposal would bring a vacant commercial building back into use, support local employment and create three full-time jobs.

They also said neighbouring homes are screened by trees and vegetation and that no significant impact on residential amenity is anticipated.

The site has previously been the subject of redevelopment proposals, including plans for housing, while a vehicle garage application was refused in 1998.

The current submission argues the circumstances behind that refusal no longer apply.

Consultation on application M/26/01357/FUL will close on October 8 before planners make a decision.
