An aged ram topped the trade and clinched championship honours at a Ludlow sale of Kerry Hills sheep.
The ram, part of the Woodhouse 2 flock, and owned by John and Phillipa Owens from Shobdon, Herefordshire, fetched 4200 guineas at the sale.
Bred by Robert and Jean Price, Pentrenant Dafydd is by Fronarth Arbennig and out of a Pentrenant ewe by a Woodhouse 2 sire.
The animal has previously won the best ram lamb in the flock competition in 2023 and first prize aged ram at this year’s Royal Welsh Show.
The Howells family from Llandysul, Carmarthenshire, bought the ram for young Dafydd Howells’ flock.
The highest-priced ram lamb on the day was Pengelly Guiness, which sold for 2800 guineas.
Bred by Stuart Lane from Newtown, Powys, the ram was purchased by Daryl Brown from Sutherland, Scotland.
A call of 1200 guineas from Carntop Farm in Fraserburgh, Aberdeenshire, secured Downwood Guardsman from Jim Rowe and Tom Webb, Leominster, Herefordshire, as the second highest price in the main sale ram lamb offering.
Shearling rams reached a top price of 2400 guineas for Dorddu Frank from Llanidloes, Powys-based S A Hamer, which went home to Tenby, Pembrokeshire, with Will Evans and James Etheridge for their Lowlands flock.
Ewe lambs reached a top price of 2000 guineas, with previous vendors Jim Rowe and Tom Webb securing that price for Downwood Go Getter.
Huw and Kate Williams then bought the top-priced shearling ewe of the day, Lowlands 34023, for 1700 guineas from Will Evans and James Etheridge.
The dispersal of the Pentrenant flock of Kerry Hills, owned by Robert and Jean Price, saw a top bid of 2000 guineas on two occasions.
The first to achieve this was a ewe lamb, Pentrenant 34743, which was bought by John and Philippa Owens.
A ram lamb, Pentrenant Gene, also reached the same price tag, going home with Sion Jones from Llanon, Ceredigion, for the Fronarth flock.
Breeding ewes from the flock topped at 1500 guineas for Pentrenant 29304, which was bought by the Owens family for the Woodhouse 2 flock.
