New workshop launched to help firms with Martyn's Law

Shropshire Chamber of Commerce has launched the workshop in response to employer demand, aiming to improve public safety preparedness across sectors.

Grace Bywater, events and training manager at the chamber, said: "This workshop is ideal for SME owners and managers, venue operators across hospitality, retail, leisure and community spaces, event organisers, and anyone responsible for public safety or the management of premises.

"Martyn’s Law introduces new responsibilities for publicly accessible premises, ensuring organisations take ‘reasonably practicable’ steps to keep people safe in the event of a terrorist incident.

"This workshop aims to close that gap."

Martyn’s Law, named in memory of Manchester Arena attack victim Martyn Hett, requires certain UK public venues and event organisers to implement proportionate security and emergency response procedures to improve public safety.

The session will be delivered in partnership with risk management consultancy MoRServ.

It will be held on September 22 from 10am to 12pm at the chamber’s head office in Telford.

Attendees will learn which businesses are affected, what actions are required, and how to introduce change in a "realistic and manageable way."
