Firefighters from across the border area were called to a large fire in Craven Arms on Friday evening, with thick smoke seen billowing high into the sky above the town.
The blaze was initially reported as a fire in the open, with smoke rising from an area behind the community centre off Corvedale Road.
Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service said crews from Bishop’s Castle and Clun, alongside local firefighters, were dispatched to the scene shortly after 7pm.
An incident command unit and support unit were also sent as firefighters worked to bring the fire under control.
The fire service reported that one field was around 80 per cent destroyed by the fire.
Residents shared images and updates on social media as crews tackled the incident.
One resident wrote: "A massive fire broke out today at 6.30pm.
"Six fire engines from all over Shropshire have been working to bring it under control for the last two hours.
"No one was injured in this incident, but there was heavy damage to the property."
Ch Xajid, speaking on behalf of residents and Craven Arms Islamic Centre in Newton Street, praised the emergency response, writing: "A big thank you to the firefighters and first responders who came out immediately and put the fire under control in Newton Street.
"Our heartfelt thanks and salutes to you."
Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service later confirmed the incident, which was reported at 7.03pm on July 24.
A spokesperson said the fire involved garden materials, garden sheds and industrial containers at Prospect Place, Craven Arms.
The spokesperson added: "Crews used six hosereel jets and one main jet to extinguish."
Operations and safety officers were also in attendance.
No injuries have been reported.
