A Ludlow councillor has slammed a proposed transport plan for the town – adding that local members have not been actively engaged.
Shropshire Council is due to launch a public consultation in September, inviting residents, businesses and stakeholders to help shape the future of transport across the county.
It will focus on the draft Local Transport Plan 2027-2037 which sets out a long-term strategy for managing, maintaining and improving Shropshire’s highways and transport network.
A programme of engagement activities will be carried out this summer before the six-week consultation begins.
However, Councillor Viv Parry said that local members in Ludlow feel they have been been involved enough in the transport plan. And, according to her, a voluntary group called Ludlow 21 – which aims to promote sustainable living in the area – seem to be receiving more information.
“And actually, it’s not very good information,” said Councillor Parry, who represents Ludlow South.
“I did go to one of their memberships [meetings] where they talked about what they wanted. I’m sorry but Ludlow 21 is not the councillors of Ludlow, and I think the people who come to my surgeries and those that came to the meetings we had at the Assembly Rooms had different ideas of what they’d like to see.
“The buses do not work at the moment and they seem to be wanting to bring the same ideas. They will not work.
“I’ve been talking to [Ludlow North Councillor] Andy Boddington. The new plan for transport in the Ludlow area will not work.”
Councillor Parry was talking during a Housing Overview and Scrutiny Committee meeting where members received an update about the first stage of drafting a new Local Plan after the previous one was withdrawn.
The committee’s chair, Councillor Andy Davis (St Oswald) said Councillor’s Parry’s comments will be taken to the relevant officers, who will listen.
