A "MAGNIFICENT" family funday football match in memory of a local man saw thousands flock to Palmer's Meadow.
Mark Benbow, chairman of Tenbury United Football Club, said the annual Nigel Weaver Foundation Football Fun Day on Saturday (June 27) drew over 700 children from clubs across Herefordshire, Worcestershire, and Shropshire, with over 60 matches played.
Nigel, who played for United both as a junior and adult, died of a heart attack in March 2018, aged 47, having also been battling cancer of the tonsils.
"It's a fantastic day, we've been doing it for a few years now and it just gets better and better," Mr Benbow said, adding that the warm weather made for perfect playing conditions.
The event saw children from every age group, from nursery age to the under-16s category, play, with every team inviting other clubs to enjoy the fun.
"It's very much a community-led project in terms of ensuring that the local towns and villages are invited as well," he added.
Mr Benbow said the huge event creates a "lovely community feel", with the event not only providing a chance for keen footballers, but also as a place to "have a bit of fun" and enjoy the bouncy castles on offer.
This year, the coaches of the football club took part in a match against the children's parents, which proved entertaining.
Mr Benbow said he was "proud" of the community for their efforts in coming together and organising the event.
"The Nigel Weaver Foundation, they put a lot of work into it, the football club put a lot of work into it as well.
"So when you get a day like that, and it's so successful, it's quite rewarding."
Mr Benbow has thanked all those involved, including the visiting local teams.
"A huge thank you to all the players, parents, grandparents, friends and family that came to support the day," he added.
"We can't wait for next year's fun day already."
