VANDALS have been warned that they have caused some serious environmental damage in Tenbury Wells,
Tree surgeons have been waiting to deal with a huge old oak tree in The Burgage in town.
But due to the poor weather they have not been able to start work.
The area has been cordoned off while they await the start of work, with the area declared unsafe.
However sometime overnight February 25, vandals pulled up the stakes around the protected area, untied the safety tape and threw everything into nearby water.
A groundsperson discovered the damage and reported it to police under crime number 00242C260226.
A town council spokesperson said: " It is very bad and dangerous too, no one should go close to the tree while it is still unsafe. A large branch has split off and works are required to make the tree safe."
The stakes and tape were retrieved from Kyre Brook.
The council is hoping to carry out the tree work on Tuesday March 3.
