Bully Ring Farm Shop opens on Ludlow's High Street

Bull Ring Farm Shop on the High Street opened just after the New Year, with over 500 customers piling through the doors on the first day.

Despite having to open later than planned due to a last-minute-hitch, the eight-strong team, six of whom are family members, were left with an "outstanding" turnout on the first day, with over 350 transactions going through the till.

The farm shop is a combined vision from Evan's Family Grocers and Lizzy's Layers based on a farm in Cleedownton.

James Evans said that although many products had flown off the shelves, the eggs had proved such an attraction that the "hens ca't lay quick enough".

"Because we're a local we know a lot of local people," Mr Evans said.

"The one about Ludlow is that the community stick together."

Mr Evans and his family are keen to bring locals, and not just tourists, fresh produce within their price range, which he says they have been able to achieve by sourcing from local farms, and some wholesale.

Although some of the artisan products may set shoppers back slightly more than the root vegetables, which currently stand at nine pence per kilogram, he said, if the business is "paying a big price, you've got to charge a big price."

Much of the produce for the shop has been sourced locally, including cooked and raw meats from Mr Evans' family friend's business, Patridge Butchers in Bromsgrove, and potatoes from Mortimer's Cross in Herefordshire.
