International flamenco company, Mi Flamenco, come to Ludlow Assembly Rooms in November with their dazzling show, Echoes, the company's first multimedia production.
Blending personal reflections of Spain with the power and poise of flamenco, Echoes is a compelling amalgam of extraordinary artists, emotion and filmic encounters which invites the audience to embark on a journey to the innermost curiosities and beauty of Andalusian culture.
Wild, beautiful, and contradictory, Spain has captured the minds of travellers, poets and artists for centuries. It has also invited cliché and criticism. These skilled dancers and musicians provide a very particular vision through Mi Flamenco’s artistic lens, inviting the audience to immerse themselves in the sights and sounds of flamenco.
Original music by Uri Tal, comprising his virtuoso guitar and the haunting sound of Nick Squires’ cello, alongside the raw vocal power and emotion of singer Luis Vargas Monge, provide the evocative soundscape for this production.
Add the dance passion and sophisticated strength from Ester Tal and Tomas Arroquero and you have all the necessary ingredients to experience the warm, and at times, poignant echoes of Southern Spain. From the azure blue of the Mediterranean to the darker notes of holy processions, Echoes encapsulates what is to be part of this Spanish art form and culture.
Co-producers Ester and Uri Tal launched Mi Flamenco in 2006, after many years working and living among the flamenco gypsies in Jerez de la Frontera in Andalusia, with the aim of bringing quality, entertaining, non-clichéd performance into creative spaces all over the UK and to explore innovative ways to present flamenco.
Mi Flamenco aim to engage, inspire and thrill new audiences by layering the traditional canvas of emotive flamenco music and movement – deeprooted in Spanish gypsy culture - with theatrical content, which is sometimes playful, sometimes challenging.
