A FOOTBALL match in aid of a Wirral-based spinal cord injury rehabilitation centre will take place later this month.

The event, on Thursday, May 16, for Bromborough-based specialist neurological physiotherapy clinic, The Rehab Physio will take place at Tranmere Rovers' Prenton Park ground.

The event is due to start at 6pm that night with a match between team members, colleagues and friends of The Rehab Physio, RST and Fletchers, followed by an awards presentation, games and drinks in Legends Bar.

The Retro Physio gives people with life-changing spinal cord injuries access to treatment needed to improve their quality of life.

It was founded in 2011 by Wirral couple, Chris and Jennifer Wynne. In 2021 they opened a purpose-built facility providing specialist physiotherapy and intensive rehabilitation to people with life-changing catastrophic injuries and complex neurological conditions, using world-leading robotics and virtual reality.

The charity match on May 16 is the result of a partnership between The Rehab Physio, The Rooprai Spinal Trust (RST) and Fletchers Solicitors.

The Rehab Physio has been working with The Rooprai Spinal Trust since 2022, a charity which was inspired by Marrianne Rooprai after she was paralysed from the shoulders down in a car accident in 2004.

Together The Rehab Physio and RST are offering funded rehabilitation placements to people with spinal cord injuries, followed by ongoing support with physiotherapy sessions and gym memberships.

Chris said: "The benefits, both physical and mental, of rehab post spinal cord injury are extensive.

"Neuro physio can help with spasticity (muscle stiffness), chronic pain and weight gain as well as preventing bone density deterioration and muscle wastage.

"Physically active patients with spinal cord injuries also reduce the risk of secondary issues such as respiratory illnesses, pressure sores and urinary tract infections. Unfortunately, the cost associated with long-term rehabilitation is a massive hurdle for many people.

"By teaming up with The Rooprai Spinal Trust and Fletchers for this event, our aim is to raise funds to give more people with life-changing spinal cord injuries the opportunity to achieve the best outcomes possible."

Andy Uttridge co-founder of RST, said: "We love working with the Rehab Physio team, our "go-to" centre for the North West.

"The combination of expertise, technology, warmth and understanding they offer makes them the perfect partner for us.

"I’d also add that the support from Fletchers is really helping to move things to another level; they totally recognise what we’re trying to achieve. However, come May 16 that friendship goes out the window for 90 minutes. Come on TeamRST!"

Nicola Stanwix, Fletchers Solicitors charities and partnerships team leader, said: "We're honoured to be able to support The Rehab Physio and The Rooprai Spinal Trust.

"Our mission is to help rebuild the lives of individuals who have suffered serious, life-changing injuries and for them to have the very best possible life after injury.

"We do this, not only through the case work we undertake for injured clients, but also through supporting charities, causes and organisations that share the same mission.

"We're proud to be involved in this great cause to raise vital funds and to also raise more awareness of the work that both charities are doing to help improve quality of life for those with spinal cord injuries."
