AN UNLICENSED driver caught driving without due care and attention has been fined by magistrates.

Caleb Asiyan was found guilty in his absence of one count of driving a vehicle on a road or public place without due care and attention and one count of driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence by magistrates in January.

He had previously entered not guilty pleas to both charges.

The court heard from prosecutor David Whitaker that the 27-year-old had been caught driving a Kia Soul without due care and attention at the junction of the B4361 and the A49 at Ludlow on May 31.

He was also found to have been driving the car without a licence authorising him to drive a vehicle of that class on the same date, magistrates in Worcester were told.

Asiyan, of Abbey Foregate, Shrewsbury, was fined £440 and received six penalty points for the offences.

He was also ordered to pay prosecution costs of £110 and a £176 victim surcharge, which is used to help fund services supporting victims of crime.
