FIREFIGHTERS were called to a suspected carbon monoxide leak at a house in Boresford yesterday (November 29).

Crews investigated the property with a gas monitor and a thermal imaging camera and did not detect signs of carbon monoxide, but advised the occupiers to get their chimney swept.

A Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: "A Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service crew from Leintwardine Fire Station was called at 6.41pm on November 29 to a house in Boresford. Crews investigated with a gas monitor and a thermal imaging camera but no sign of carbon monoxide was detected. Occupiers were advised to get their chimney swept. There was no casualties. The incident was marked as pending closure at 7.25pm."

Carbon monoxide is a poisonous gas that is produced when fossil fuels burn inefficiently. It is known as the silent killer due to its lack of colour, taste and smell making it invisible to human senses. This is why Carbon monoxide alarms are so important and can be bought from supermarkets and reputable DIY shops.

Symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning to look out for include headaches, dizziness, breathlessness, nausea, loss of consciousness, tiredness, chest and stomach pain, erratic behaviour and visual problems.

If you suspect someone is suffering from the effects of carbon monoxide poisoning or is unconscious, dial 999 from outside the property and ask for the fire and ambulance services. The fire and rescue services can then ventilate and monitor carbon monoxide levels.
