A TEAM of councillors on the implementation executive overseeing the move to a Shropshire Council unitary authority has made its first senior appointment to the new council.

Val Beint, assistant director at Dudley Metropolitan Borough Council, has been appointed as community services director for Shropshire Council.

She heads the adult social care service at Dudley which is rated as the fourth best in the country. She will take up her new post later in the summer and will work to prepare community services for the move to Shropshire Council.

Implementation executive chairman Malcolm Pate said: "We are delighted to have made this appointment. Val was an outstanding candidate and I am sure she will be a real asset to Shropshire Council."

Vice-chair Cecilia Motley said: "Director of community services is a challenging role and we feel Val has all the attributes required to do a first-rate job for the people of Shropshire and the new Shropshire Council."

Val Beint said: "I am delighted to have been appointed as director of community services and look forward to joining Shropshire at this exciting time."
