A TENBURY hairdresser is celebrating a special birthday.

The Hair Shop, in Market Street, was set up by Sing Gunn in 1993 when she was 21 after she did a hairdressing qualification course in the town.

"My parents Wendy and John helped me start the business which was originally located around the corner of the previous Clock House," said Mrs Gunn.

"In the original shop, there were three cutting stations and one wash basin. Due to customer demand, we then moved to its present location on Market Street.

"Today, there are two basins, and six cutting stations, as the workload has doubled."

The shop has earned five stars on Google out of 20 reviews.

Sarah le Roux said: "Friendly service, very helpful, great haircuts for my husband and student son."

Shirley Eaton added: "Been going for wash and blow dry for last few months and was fed up with my hair. Decided to have some layers in yesterday - wow, fantastic. Love the way it moves. "Looks great even after being out in the wind. Love it. Cheers girls."

To mark its 30th birthday, the salon will be holding a celebratory event between 10am and 1pm on Saturday, October 21.

"Like so many local businesses over the years there have been many struggles from floodings to the recent times of lockdowns due to the Covid pandemic," added Mrs Gunn.

"I would like to thank my dedicated staff team that has helped make the Hair Shop what it is today as well as my husband for his continued support.

"Myself and my staff would also wish to express our sincere thanks to all our customers over the years, some of whom have been regulars from the very start, and to our ongoing clients.

"So, if you are free on October 21 between 10am and 1pm, please come and join in the celebrations for drinks and nibbles."
