A LUDLOW firefighter has completed his training, making him the fourth generation of his family to work for the town’s fire service.

Ludlow Fire Station said that Max Bufton, an on-call firefighter who works at Morris, Bufton and Co, has completed his development programme and been signed off as a competent firefighter.

Mr Bufton told the Ludlow Advertiser: “To be a competent firefighter is a dream come true. I am there for the community whenever they need my help. It is always rewarding when you return from a job knowing that you have helped someone in their hour of need. I also attend local events, firefighter charity car washes and provide fire safety advice to the community.

“It is a great privilege to continue in the footsteps of the three generations of my family who were all firefighters at Ludlow. I always remember my grandad’s stories of his time being a firefighter here at Ludlow. I hope it will be a tradition that I will carry on for many years to come.

“It wouldn’t be possible for me to be a firefighter without the support of my family. I would especially like to thank my mother for all her support and my father who lets me respond from my place of work Morris, Bufton and Co in the daytime which helps make sure Ludlow Fire Station has a day crew to respond to emergency call outs whenever we are needed.”

Mr Bufton’s mother, Sadie Bufton, said: “We are extremely proud. He has worked so hard to make his firefighting dream come true.”

Ludlow Fire Station said: “We would like to congratulate firefighter Max Bufton on the completion of his three-yearly development programme showing great effort and dedication to keeping Ludlow safe.”

Mr Bufton’s family history of firefighting goes back 84 years, to 1939, when his great-great-grandfather George Griffiths joined the service. His great-grandfather Eddie Hughes then served as a firefighter in the 1950s and 1960s, with his grandfather Mervyn Hughes joining in 1968. Mr Bufton first became a firefighter in 2021.
