A POPULAR event took to the streets of Ludlow at the weekend to raise funds for a vital service in the town.

According to acting chairman Michael Evans, the annual Ludlow Bed Push charity collection on behalf of the League of Friends of Ludlow Hospital has proved a great success.

The organisation works to help support the community hospital, regularly making donations including furniture to the hospital.

The Ludlow Bed Push, led by volunteer Mark Hiles, saw a seven-strong team of fundraisers dressed as nurses and doctors set off at 10am, with the last nurse standing pushing on until midnight, and raised over £3,000 in the town centre.

"On behalf of the Ludlow and South Shropshire Community we are very grateful to Mark and his gallant followers," said Michael Evans.

"Their good work helps the League of Friends donate to specialist needs of our hospital as well as towards other benefits for the well-being of our community."
