TENBURY veteran Bob Hughes is off on a marathon bike ride for charity - and he aims to complete the job by the first week in June.
The super fit 75-year-old set off from Lands End on May 5 and is aiming to free-wheel in to John O’ Groats on Friday, June 2, having clocked up an incredible 944 miles in the saddle.
“The plan is to pedal for 22 days averaging 45 miles a day, with six rest days,” said Mr Hughes, who is raising money for Cancer Research UK.
Incredibly, Mr Hughes, a keen member of Brimfield and Little Hereford Bowling Club, completed the same endurance test six years ago.
“I just wanted to challenge myself and see if I could do it again at the age of 75,” he said.
His first wife Ann died from cancer at the age of 42 and fellow members of the club are also battling the illness.
Contributions to Cancer Research can be made via Mr Hughes' Giving page and he will be posting regular updates on the bowls club website as he progresses north.
“The 944 miles doesn’t allow for me getting lost on a few occasions which happened last time,” Mr Hughes said.
