LUDLOW Rotarians have decided that they will support their own charity that provides grants to good causes in the area.

This year the tree will have a new set of lights that are being provided by Ludlow Town Council.

The tree of light is a chance to celebrate this Christmas with a dedication to a loved one, or thank a person or organisation, commemorate an anniversary, a grandchild or send greetings to friends and family by making a dedication and £5 donation.

All profits this year will go to Ludlow Rotary Cares. Over the last seven years the Rotary Club of Ludlow has invested over £30,000 in 60 local community projects.

After a gap of two years when fund raising has been difficult due to Covid restrictions, the Rotary Club says that it is now able to invest again in the local community.

Sue Fleetwood, who organizes the Tree of Light for the Rotary Club said that the idea of the ‘Ludlow cares’ initiative is to provide organisations with small amounts of money that can make a difference.

The grants are typically up to a maximum of £500.

In 2022 the 10 successful applicants were 1st Ludlow Scout Group, Cleobury Mortimer Horticultural Society, Clun Valley Sewing Group, Cleobury Mortimer Men’s Shed, Crossroads Together, a young carers support group based in Craven Arms, Girlguiding Ludlow, Ludlow Men’s Shed, Ludlow Primary School, Rocksprings Choir and a project taking engineering into schools called South Shropshire Engineering Ambassadors.

The Ludlow Rotary Tree of Light is located in the Castle Gardens on the Castle Square and the lights will be on from Saturday, November 26 until Thursday, January 5 2023.

Only those dedications received by Thursday, December 15 will be featured in the Christmas edition of the Ludlow Advertiser.

All dedications received up to Twelfth Night will be recorded in the Book of Remembrance, as well as online at www.ludlowrotaryclub.org.uk
