A COUPLE had what was planned to be a lovely day out in Ludlow ruined.

Sallyann Wright, aged 58 and husband John, 42, live in Dudley but are frequent visitors to Ludlow.

Ms Wight, suffers from chronic pain because of osteoarthritis and swimming, especially wild swimming because of the cold water, helps to relieve her pain.

The couple went swimming in the river near Millennium Green.

“I saw John’s face go white and he told me he had lost his wedding ring in the water,” said Ms Wright.

The couple made the rings together just months before they got married in San Francisco in 2019 and earlier this year went back to renew their wedding vows

“The rings are not of huge monetary value but of massive sentimental value so we are desperately hoping that someone finds John’s ring,” Ms Wright added.

They met in a pub in Perry Barr in Birmingham, where John, who is from America, was studying for a masters’ degree.

The couple have been going through a tough time recently, as John, who is a charity fund raiser and helps writes bids for organisations needing funding support, recently lost his job.

On the morning that the ring was lost, Ms Wright briefly passed out because of strong medication, she is taking for her osteoarthritis.

So it was a bad start to the day but the couple little knew that it was going to get worse.

They enjoy visiting Ludlow and come frequently.

“It is a lovely town and we enjoy visiting,” said Ms Wright.

The couple are part of a social media group called ‘Shropshire blue tits’ that helps people to find suitable sites for to go wild swimming.

Neither claim to be particularly strong swimmers and say the river in Ludlow is good because it is not very deep.

“It is important to know where is safe and no one should go wild swimming on their own or jump into cold water,” said Ms Wright.

“If we can find the ring and John could get another job that would be wonderful”.
