LUDLOW needs to do more to encourage people to leave the A49 and come into the town.

This is the view of town councillor Vivienne Parry, who is also the Shropshire councillor for Ludlow south.

Mrs Parry has got an agreement from Shropshire Council that the two roundabout that people negotiate as they come into Ludlow need to be made welcoming and provide something attractive to look at.

The two roundabout are at Rocks Green and on Sheet Road. They are used by people coming into Ludlow from the A49 and are the main gateways into Ludlow for visitors.

Mrs Parry says that the work on the roundabouts could start later in the year and she is looking for ideas from people living in the town.

“I feel that Ludlow has to do all that it can to get people to turn off the A49 and come into the town to see all that we have to offer,” said Mrs Parry.

“The idea is to make the roundabouts look good so that people are encouraged to make a turn and come and see us.”

She is open to ideas from Ludlovians.

“It would be good to have ideas from people in Ludlow,” added Mrs Parry.

“There are no preconceived ideas but whatever is done needs to be attractive all year round.”

Possibilities include planting flowers and shrubs but Mrs Parry is open to other suggestions as well.

But it is not only ideas that are needed but money as well.

Whilst Shropshire Council are agreeable to the proposition they will not be funding the work and the money will have to be found locally.

Mrs Parry is hoping that businesses in the town may feel able to put their hands in their pocket to sponsor the project.

“The town is looking magnificent and it would be great if we could make the points of arrival inviting,” Mrs Parry said.
