A HEREFORDSHIRE speeder has escaped a roads ban after a court heard it would cause hardship for his in-laws.

Timothy Gilbert Charles James entered a guilty plea to magistrates in Hereford.

The court heard the 65-year-old had been caught breaking the limit behind the wheel of an Audi in a 30 miles per hour zone on the A44 New Road in Worcester on September 9.

James, of Aymestrey, Leominster, was fined £100, received three penalty points, and must pay costs of £90 and a £34 victim surcharge.

No totting disqualification was made as, magistrates heard, a roads ban would have an effect on his in-laws in Thailand, who rely on money sent by his wife, and a disqualification would reduce the amount of money that could be sent.
