THE returning swifts of Bishops Castle will have chance to consider new homes this year.
Three community groups from have worked together to enhance the chances of successful breeding by migratory swifts. Going Wild in Bishop’s Castle have used funding to ask Walters Workshop, a new venture aiming to use repair skills in the community, to build several swift nest boxes.
A Going Wild in BC survey of local people has been checked for suitable siting of the bird boxes by Clive Millard a member of Shropshire Swift Group.
Boxes are taken by members of the Going Wild in BC group and others in the community to the selected buildings and erected before the swifts return in late April.
“We aren’t expecting the swifts to settle in them this season,” said Clive Millard, member of Shropshire Swift Group
“They will probably check them out for next year.”
