HEREFORD Amnesty Group voiced concern about the Governments Nationality and Borders Bill.
I question their assertion there are hardly any safe and legal routes for people seeking safety.
A genuine asylum seeker should be relieved to have set foot in any safe country they reach.
From that country there are legal channels available to seek asylum in another country of their choosing.
RELATED NEWS:
I reject the supposition that UK is the only safe haven in the world for asylum seekers from far and wide.
We have limited resources and suffer instances of homelessness and hunger within our own communities, who would welcome staying in hotels with food and spending money provided.
The governments first responsibility is to protect our citizens and are right to screen, detain and return anybody who enters this country by illegally.
Among people who have arrived in boats are cases of individuals who destroyed their passports, lied about their age and their country of origin.
No one forces people fleeing their own countries to get in small boats and head for the UK.
The safety of our citizens is supreme.
It is appropriate that asylum seekers are thoroughly scrutinised before being allowed entry to this country.
