THE value of winter walks for physical and mental health has been highlighted in a BBC series.

There was just such a walk at the Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre in Craven Arms at the end of last year.

It was led by Centre Manager, Grant Wilson and involved a guided tour around 30 acres of the Riverside Meadow.

It was nothing too arduous and the free walk lasted about 90 minutes in the deep mid winter.

The Discovery Centre has a range of attractions including a cafe and meeting area.

It is run by a charity and provides courses in a wide range of activities from cooking using local ingredients to skills such as hedge laying.

There are also activities for children and community events like the annual bonfire party.

The Discovery Centre is a base for hill walking and attracts visitors from all over the country. In April it will host a major challenge for hill walkers and runners during a special weekend for those that love the great outdoors.
