THERE is a planning application expected to build a solar farm near Ludlow.

The initial application is for a change of use of land from agricultural use to agricultural/solar photovoltaic farm use with continued quasi-agricultural use for the management of grass by low intensity grazing.

It applies to land to the east Of Squirrel Lane in Ledwyche.

The application has been lodged by Locgen.

At this stage a full planning application has not been lodged and so there is no opportunity to comment.

There is already a solar farm in the area.

Solar power is one of the sustainable ways to generating electricity rather than using fossil fuels.

However, it is dependent upon sunlight.

Concerns about solar power include the visual appearance especially in rural areas like south Shropshire where there is a dependence upon tourism because some people consider the solar panels to be unsightly and out of place.
