ISLA McEwan of Tenbury has come out top of a county-wide children’s writing competition on the theme of climate change.
She was presented with the Worcester Libraries Creative Writing Competition prize at Tenbury, having beaten off 27 other entries.
It followed a creative writing workshop run at the library by The Story Knights, who are children’s author Kevin Brooke and illustrator Seraphim Bryant, which was based on their recent dystopian novel The Objectors.
Seraphim Bryant presented Isla with a signed copy of the book and a £10 gift voucher after the 11-year-old had just completed her first day at Tenbury High School.
She said Isla’s story, about young people rediscovering London after it had been submerged by catastrophic floods, was “so creative, and made a really good point about global warming.”
