AT last, a music programme is published for a church near Tenbury following the end of Covid restrictions.

The St. Michael and All Angels Music and Events are now confirmed and available in printed form.

It has been a huge challenge for this small parish which has a church that is best described as a mini cathedral.

Despite its relatively small size on plan, it’s height and timber vaulting traversing its length give it an outstanding acoustic.

As a consequence, many recordings were made when this was also the collegiate chapel of the adjoining college which was a choir school.

The founder, Sir Frederick Ouseley, would probably be somewhat disturbed by some of the events.

Times have changed since the opening of the college in 1856 but he would have been pleased that it was all to support the survival of the church.

What would he have thought of a Bubbly and Bacon Baps Sunday morning that takes place tomorrow.

Perhaps he would have been more at home with the Herefordshire Art Week, starting on September 4.

A whole variety of art and craft will fill the nave.

Following on its heels, on September 18 comes Music Nouveau.

This is headed up by Andy Cook after the success of his 4/4 for All concert earlier in the programme.

It will feature all original local music talent. Regulars come back for its special atmosphere and acoustics where, occasionally, magic happens.

The Church is huge for a small village and the maintenance and upkeep costs are high.

It has been used for community events although these have not been possible during the Covid-19 pandemic.

There is a hope that now restrictions are lifted the Church can start to generate income through larger events that take advantage of the space.

The Church is linked to St Michael’s College that closed last year as an international school.
