GRACE Oakley is doing something that is sure to raise eyebrows in a great cause close to her heart and the big day is fast approaching..

Ms Oakley, aged 29, plans to wave goodbye to her twenties by giving people something to smile and think about.

She has set Sunday, September 19 as her date with destiny.

The mum, who lives in Shropshire and comes from Stourbridge, will take her lead from Lady Godiva and ride naked on her horse Ug through Ludlow.

Ms Oakley plans to start her ride through the town at the Broadgate.

She hopes it will give people something to smile about at such a tough time but for Ms Oakley there is a very special reason for her following the example of the most famous woman bare backed rider.

When she was 12 her mum killed herself.

“I lost my mum Kate to suicide in 2004. I was only 12 when she took her own life and so I know just how heart breaking and devastating it can be for those who are left behind,” said Ms Oakley.

Ms Oakley turned to horse riding as a therapy that has turned into a passion and her lovely horse Ug is her best friend.

A love of horses and desire to do something to help reduce suicide in young people triggered the idea for the ride that will raise awareness of suicide and money for PAPYRUS, a national charity dedicated to the prevention of suicide in those under the age of 35.

PAPYRUS works with communities and volunteers in suicide prevention projects and deliver training programmes to individuals and groups. There is confidential support and advice to young people struggling with thoughts of suicide, and anyone of any age who is worried about a young person through a helpline, HOPELINEUK.
