ROYAL Ascot came to south Shropshire with a race day event at Doddington Lodge Residential home.

Staff and residents got into the spirit of the annual summer festival of horse racing that included a visit from a race horse complete with jockey.

Residents dressed up in the style of the nation’s biggest race meeting fashion event.

Royal Ascot is one of the main features of the summer social season and the Queen is a regular race goer although this year for only the second time in 69 years, she did not make it.

The sun was out for staff and residents who were all looking wonderful in their finest, they had salmon and scrambled eggs for breakfast and were drinking Pimms in the sunshine.

In the afternoon they all put bets on and there were prizes for the winners!

The trainer was Mark Loughnane from DML Racing at Rock, the jockey was Cameron Hillhouse a local lad who is doing exceptionally well, having won in his first two races.

Leading the horse, Takeonefortheteam was Bessie Greenow.
