THE fall in the number of Covid-19 cases in Shropshire continues with a week on week decrease of nearly 50 per cent.

In the past week for which figures are available there were 32 new cases, down 29.

The seven-day infection rate for Shropshire was 9.9 cases of Covid-19 per 100,000 of the population.

In the West Midlands Region it was nearly three times this at 26.2 cases per 100,000 compared with 27 for England.

In Shropshire just three hospital beds were occupied by people with the virus and there were no reported deaths during the week.

Just four per cent of infections involved people in care homes and 40 per cent were people under the age of 40.

With no cases amongst those aged 70 or over the majority were in the 40-70 years age group.

Twelve per cent of the cases were in south Shropshire, 48 per cent in the north of the county and the remainder in Shrewsbury and Atcham.

Everyone aged over 50 has been offered at least one dose of vaccine.
