THERE have been many tributes to HRH Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh.

Harriett Baldwin, the MP for West Worcestershire, whose constituency includes Tenbury said that he had provided decades of public service.

“I was greatly saddened to learn of the passing of HRH the Duke of Edinburgh,” said Mrs Baldwin.

“He has been a steadfast supporter of the Queen and has given a lifetime of service to this country for which we are truly grateful. My thoughts are with Her Majesty and all the Royal Family at this sad time.”

The Duke was born into the impoverished Greek Royal family and married the then Princess Elizabeth in 1948.

He met her whilst at the Royal Naval College in Dartmouth and served as a Royal Naval officer until Elizabeth became Queen in 1952, after which he dedicated himself to Royal duties.

Prince Philip is probably best known for founding the Duke of Edinburgh awards scheme in 1956.

He died aged 99 and would have been 100 in June.
