FIREFIGHTERS battled a large blaze 'in the open' near Cleobury Mortimer this morning.
Firefighters were called at 2.30am to the large fire at Catherton Common in Hopton Wafers.
Both retained fire crews from Ludlow were joined by a crew from Cleobury Mortimer.
A high-mobility and all-terrain vehicle called a 'Pinzgauer' was also in attendance from Church Stretton.
"A large amount of common on fire approximately 100 metres by 50 metres," said Ludlow firefighters.
"One hose reel jet, covering jet and beaters were used to extinguish fire.
"Crews worked extremely hard throughout the morning to prevent further fire spread and damage to wildlife."
