BUILDING has begun of the new Sainsbury’s Ludlow supermarket which is due to open by Christmas creating 150 jobs.

From next month the community will see the building take shape with the steel frame going up. Once the steel frame is complete the developer delivering the building will install the walls and glazing.

Sainsbury’s is expected to take control of the building in Autumn this year and then will start to fit the store out.

This stage of the supermarket development is expected to take approximately three months to complete with the retailer aiming to open the doors to customers by Christmas this year.

Once complete the new supermarket will create around 150 store jobs across a range of roles and levels.

Sainsbury’s say they will continue to keep the community updated on the store build and as the recruitment process moves forward later in the year.

Sainsbury’s property director Patrick Dunne said: “We are proud to be joining the local community in Ludlow and look forward to welcoming customers into the new store as soon as possible.

"Our investment in Ludlow will give residents a new and modern store and is supporting jobs during construction and beyond.

"This new supermarket will provide customers with access to fresh, great value food alongside Sainsbury’s renowned colleague service.”

As with all works, Sainsbury’s is strictly adhering to Government advice in relation to Covid-19.

All on-site work by Sainsbury’s contractors will be undertaken in accordance with the Government’s social distancing guidelines and working practices will be kept under continuous review to ensure they align with the most up to date Government guidance.

The state of the art 17,000 sq. ft supermarket has been specifically designed to best meet local needs and will provide a range of Sainsbury’s own-brand and branded food ranges, alongside the popular clothing and general merchandise offer.

An Argos store will also be provided inside the supermarket, which they state will bring choice, value and convenience to their customers with products available for immediate purchase and collection.

The new supermarket will also play an active role in the local community and will be supporting Sainsbury’s nationwide community programmes. In January Sainsbury’s also announced an additional £1 million community fund for stores to donate to charities and other good causes in their local areas.

This follows Sainsbury’s ‘Help Brighten a Million Christmases’ campaign that raised £6 million in December for over 800 local charity partners, Comic Relief and FareShare.
