A young woman from Ludlow plans to ride naked through the town to support a charity that is close to her heart

Grace Oakley was just 12 years-old when her mum took her own life.

The 29-year-old is joining forces with the mare Ug to raise awareness and money for PAPYRUS Prevention of Young Suicide.

Ms Oakley says that the ride planned for September will hopefully give people something to smile about and in return they will give generously.

"Together the two of us are planning a cheeky little fundraising event later this year which we hope you’ll all support," she said.

"I’d like to reveal that I’m planning to ride my 10-year-old mare through my home town of Ludlow in Shropshire wearing little more than a smile!"

She will be following in the footsteps of the wife of Leofric, Earl of Mercia who took to horseback in the buff to show her support for the people of Coventry who were suffering under the rule of her husband.

"No, I’m not horsing around," added Ms Oakley.

"I’ll be repeating what Lady Godiva did back in the eleventh century when she reportedly rode her horse naked through the streets.

It’s a bit of fun, which I hope will make people smile, but it is all for a very serious and worthy cause.

"I’m raising money for an amazing charity called PAPYRUS Prevention of Young Suicide. I lost my mum Kate to suicide in 2004. I was only 12 when she took her own life and so I know just how heartbreaking and devastating it can be for those who are left behind.

Suicide is the biggest killer of young people under the age of 35 in the UK. PAPYRUS believes many suicides can be prevented and we can all do our bit to help save young lives.

"Over the coming months I’ll be busy getting myself toned-up for what promises to be an eyebrow-raising event in September.

"I’m 29-years-old and it’ll also be a really great way of riding out my twenties in style!

"My daughter Olivia is 9 and she thinks what I’m planning to do is really fantastic.

"She will be supporting me and Ug every step of the way during our fun (but chilly) fundraising event and I hope you will too."

Ms Oakley has a live fundraising site where donations can be made.
