FISH and chips have been a firm British favourite for generations with many opting for a Friday night dinner from the local chippy.

1. Ambleside Fish Bar, Ambleside Drive

This popular fish and chip shop recently re-opened after closing for a year much to the joy of the locals.

The proof is in the pudding as 278 out of 325 reviewers rated the chippy as excellent.

Richard wrote: "Great chippy friendly staff. Portion sizes are massive and tasty. We had a kebab and chips to share between the two of us but it would of been enough for four people to eat. Good value for money."

2. Rainbow Hill Chippy, Astwood Road

Coming in second is another firm favourite with the people of Worcester, with 34 out of 42 rating the fast food joint as excellent.

Tom wrote: "Very pleasantly surprised by how good the fish was. Normally this far in land you have to make do to a large extent, but Rainbow Hill was a pleasure. Definitely the best chippy in Worcester."

Coming in third is Donnelly's, known for its large selection of curry sauce. 66 vistors agree this plaice is excellent.

Julie said: "Had a very busy day at work and none of us were able to get out to collect lunch. Donnelly delivered to our work place in super quick time, lovely hot food, the Irish curry sauce is amazing- a must try if you haven’t already!"

Squids in! The Crispy Cod covers all bases. 26 out of 34 reviewers agree the chippy in Perdiswell is excellent.

Neil said: "Have gone to the Crispy Cod on and off for about 15 years and every single time has been outstanding, , light crispy and well seasoned batter, delicious cripsy yet sticky chips - if ever I have to get fish and chips anywhere else I always compare to the Crispy Cod and am always disappointed. By far the best and most consistent fish and chip shop around. FULL MARKS! Faultless."

And last but not least is the Lyppard Fryer, 24 out of 50 people said it was excellent.

Stevie wrote: "Friendly staff. Convenient for parking and walking. Decent portions and quality. Nothing really to add. It’s a good chippy. If you live in or visit Warndon Villages, go there. Assuming you like fish and chips, obviously."
