A COUPLE farming at Walton near Kington have a double reason for celebration the day before part of their farm comes under the Wales lockdown, limiting movements to their other stock and fields in Herefordshire.

On October 22, Evan and Lucy Jones (nee Pudge) will be celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary and also Evan’s 85th birthday.

Both lifelong farmers, the couple married at Kingsland church, after the wheat, potato and hop harvest with the reception back at Street farm.

And Evan has seen major change over his 85 years. He started off working horse drawn implements and a threshing machine and is now still working the Radnor valley, but with computerised tractors. Lucy too has gone from keeping hand written to computerised farming records. However some things never change, like the fruit cake she has produced every day.

They are especially pleased to see their son, also called Evan, and grandsons James and David, enthusiastically continuing the farming tradition.

With Covid severely limiting celebrations, Evan and Lucy are especially thankful that they can at least reminisce about their happy family weddings.
